Klaus Neumann, a German architect from Munich, arrived in South Africa in 2005. He planned a short holiday to escape the cold German winter, but Cape Town worked its magic and he decided to stay. He started with MLB Architects, where he soon became a partner.
The 2010 soccer world cup brought with it, large and interesting architectural projects, like the 5-star Pepper Club Hotel in the center of Cape Town and the Amazon building in Gardens. Klaus was responsible for both.
In 2016, after spending a year in Johannesburg, he returned to Cape Town and started his own company “Urbane Citizen Architecture”. Urbane Citizen Architecture often is engaged in projects where historic buildings are renovated and extended. One example is the “Gorgeous George” Hotel in the center of Cape Town, which was completed in 2019.
Klaus and his team also enjoy taking on smaller, private projects, which can be realized cost-effectively, especially since after 15 years of building in Cape Town, Urbane Citizen Architects can fall back on an extensive network of good and reliable companies.
In order to harmonize existing buildings with new designs and to gain an excellent understanding of the local building history, Klaus attended various advanced courses in building conservation and urban development at UCT in Cape Town.
It is important to Klaus and his team, that Urban Citizen Architecture develops sustainable and environmentally friendly architectural solutions when realizing their clients’ wishes.
