The German Protestant-Lutheran City Mission in Cape Town

The City Mission belongs to the Protestant City Missions in Southern Africa (ESSA). This registered non-profit association with main office in Pretoria aims to spread the message of the bible to the German speaking Community in South Africa. People of all ages and walks of life meet to create and maintain friendships.

The History of the city mission started in 1950, when South Africa saw many immigrants from Germany to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Kwazulu Natal and the Cape Region. Immigrants started to meet to pray informally and to spread the word of god. The mission also started to organise youth camps and other activities for the whole family.

In 1970 the first City Mission was founded in the Johannesburg German community. City Missions in Cape Town, Windhoek, Pretoria, Vanderbijlpark, Tygerberg and Swakopmund followed.
