Steeped in history and tradition, the German Country Club in Johannesburg – the Deutsche Turn- und Sportverein was officially founded on 3 February 1928. The first club facilities were built in 1934 on four acres in the Johannesburg suburb of Mountain View and officially opened in 1936 with traditional German food and beer. These facilities included a soccer field, four tennis courts and an athletics ground fully equipped with gymnastic apparatus and change rooms.

Today the German Country Club is centrally located and set in tranquil green gardens and is a great space to watch the most beautiful African sunsets over Sandton every evening. Germans are renowned for their hospitality, love of sports, beer drinking, song singing, and appreciation of good German food, good conversation and an even better atmosphere. Visitors to the club will experience true Deutsche Gemütlichkeit. It is a child and family-friendly venue, with a swimming pool, lapa, braai facilities, tennis courts, soccer field, a skittles (bowling) alley, bar, restaurant, and big screen TV’s for sports matches. Expect great traditional German food and beer served with a smile.
